Thurma confronting a darkened LandstriderĪlthough the Darkening was largely purged after Jen healed the Crystal, trace elements of it remained on Skeksis artifacts, some of which were used as torture devices by the crime lord Trunk. After the death of Vliste-Staba, the Sanctuary Tree's power was transferred to the Grottan Deet, who gained the ability to absorb and redirect the Darkening. The Skeksis' denial of the Darkening's existence was one of the factors leading to the collapse of the Alliance of the Crystal and the formation of the Gelfling resistance. Emperor skekSo, who had secretly been experimenting with the Darknening, decreed that it didn't exist, ignoring the reports of his Gelfling subjects of crop failures and animal attacks. The process only accelerated after the Skeksis began draining Gelfling of their essence, thus preventing them from returning their balancing life force to Thra once they died. However, after a thousand trine of the Skeksis leeching energy from the Crystal, the Darkening grew in strength and gradually overcame the Trees.

It looks fantastic it\'s just maybe a bit too fragile. The Darkening first manifested itself after the Shard of the Division was chipped from The Crystal, though it was held at bay by the Great Trees. Still, I took off a star only because I felt the more fragile arm fabric would have been better served during shipping if the arms were detachable pieces. I can always reattach it with modeling glue if it really starts to bug me. Plus, the damage is not noticeable unless you really get up close and examine the statue or know it\'s supposed to be there.
DEET DARK CRYSTAL FOR FREE
this was a Weta Dollars purchase, and I picked it up pretty much for free with another statue I\'ve had my eye on during a sale. The separation from the main statue helped to keep them from becoming damaged during shipping. On other statues I\'ve ordered (notably urVa) the more fragile bits were separate pieces to be applied by the collector. As the fabric is all one piece with the bulk of Deet\'s body and the base, these bits are far more likely to break off when the box is jostled and the bulk of the statue\'s weight shifts. The wrist fabric is extremely light and very easy to bend/break. On examination of it, it is clear to see why. The bit that broke off was a piece of the flowing wrist fabric. The damage was fairly superficial (so superficial, in fact, that I didn\'t notice it initially until I saw the small piece that broke off lying in the box). I was surprised that some of the more fragile detailing on the arms were not smaller pieces to be attached by the collector (like the wings) and unfortunately that is to the statue\'s detriment as the piece I received is the first Weta collectible I\'ve ordered that arrived damaged. It displays beautifully and is well-balanced, staying upright in spite of a heavy lean. Wings arrive separated from the body and they fit seamlessly into the sculpt. Although available as standalone statues, we recommend displaying them together as one heroic pair, straight from the fantastical world of Thra.Īs with all of the other Dark Crystal statues I\'ve purchased from Weta, Deet is absolutely gorgeous with fantastic detailing in the sculpt and the paint job. The crescent shape of the Gelfling’s base connects with the circular base of the brave Podling. Joining Weta Workshop’s Dark Crystal range, Deet has been designed to accompany her friend and protector, Hup. Faux-stone base features iconography from the floor of the Crystal Chamber.High-quality polystone statue, with translucent wings cast in resin.

Sculpt developed from digital scans of the original puppet seen on screen.Prototype by Weta Workshop sculptor Steven Saunders.Portrays the gentle Grottan from The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.Even as the Three Suns sting in her sensitive eyes, Deet's bravery and single-minded belief in the goodness of Thra and its people drive in pursuit of her urgent quest. Compelled by this truth to seek out the leader of the seven Gelfling clans, Deet leaves her home for the very first time to journey in the bright lands above ground. But everything changes for Deet when the Sanctuary Tree speaks to her, giving her a vision of their world darkened and dying. Deet is content and happy hand-feeding nurlocs in the Caves of Grot where she lives with her family.
